Tips for Working ParentsHaving always been a working parent, I know how hard it is to balance your -out-of-home job with your parenting responsibilities. I've jotted down a few ideas that might help you. Also, you are always welcome to email me at betty@linderlearningland.com and ask me any questions. I certainly don't know everything, but I'm more than happy to share my experiences. Avoid the "Getting Ready in the Morning" ChaosTIP: Buy 5 little plastic baskets. If your child is old enough, let him/her help in this daily activity. On the weekend before, assemble five complete outfits for your child. In each basket, put: a pair of socks, a dress or a shirt and pants, underpants and if a girl, any hair ribbon or barrette that goes with the outfit. Each morning, your child can pick one basket (or you can), and except for shoes, everything is there! Don't Be the "Parent Who Keeps Forgetting to Bring Diapers"TIP: Buy one of those large packages of diapers and put it in the trunk of your car, then when you get the "diapers needed" note, you can just walk outside and get them. Ease the "Laundry Everywhere" ProblemTIP: Buy one plastic basket for each person in your family. Write a family member's name on each basket and line these baskets up on the washer and/or dryer. As you take laundry out of the dryer, sort it by dropping it in the correct basket. If your child is old enough, start helping him/her learn to fold his/her own laundry and put it up. Help Your Child Take Responsibility For His/Her RoomTIP: Have an easily accessible large open box or basket that your child can pile his/her toys in when it is clean-up time. For older children, don't do what I did. In thinking I was "helping" my child, often when he'd make up his bed, I'd tug at a bedspread or straighten a pillow, thinking I was "helping" him. As he was older, he told me that he always felt he didn't do it "right" or he couldn't please me because I corrected what he did. So, try to remember to compliment your child on his efforts and don't unthinkingly do a "little more" so the results look more like what an older person could do.
